OVERVIEW/WHAT IS IT?

PetSafe underground dog fence is a pet containment system consisting of a transmitter, a wire which you can bury under the ground or lay on top of the ground, and receiver collars that the dog wears.

There are a few variations including the Stubborn Dog Radio Fence for those dogs that are over 20 pounds and a bit stubborn and hard to train, the deluxe ultralight receiver with 5 adjustable levels of correction, the PetSafe Deluxe Little Dog Fences for small dogs 5 pounds or more, the Radio Fence Plus which includes a training system, and the PetSafe Standard Comfort Fit Dog Fence with one level of correction.

Other brands available are Innotek and SportDog. The SportDog Fence is for large areas up to 100 acres.

There is also a PetSafe Indoor Dog Fence for protecting areas of the house.

These fences work by using a transmitter which works with the receiver collars the dogs wear. When the dog approaches the wire, it emits a beep and then if they continue on to the wire, a small shock. The collars can also be set for only a beep and no shock, or no beep.

Each kit includes a transmitter, a receiver on an adjustable collar, extra receiver probes to work with different types of hair, bondary wire, boundary flags, a manual, and a training and installation DVD.

We like the PetSafe Underground Dog Fence very much. The cost is low and the fence appears to work just as well as the more expensive brands such as The Invisible Fence. The downside is you have to do all the work yourself to install it.
